What is the construction and purpose of wing mirrors?

Wing mirrors are elements mounted on the sides of the vehicle, usually near the front doors or at the base of the pillar. A typical assembly consists of a housing, mirror glass, mounting base, adjustment mechanism, and wires or a connector in electric versions. Their primary task is to provide the driver with visibility to the sides and behind the vehicle. Mounting side, color, and compatibility with the equipment version are also important when selecting.

What are wing mirrors used for?

Wing mirrors are used to observe the vehicle's surroundings while driving, changing lanes, reversing, and parking. They help reduce blind spots and make it easier to judge the distance from other vehicles or obstacles. Depending on the version, they can also improve comfort thanks to heating, electric adjustment, or folding. Their efficiency affects both safety and the driver's daily convenience.

What role does the mirror adjustment mechanism play?

The mirror adjustment mechanism is a system that allows the glass to be set at the correct angle relative to the driver's position. It can operate manually or electrically and works with the mirror glass, housing, and door wiring. Proper operation of this mechanism allows for a full field of view without vibrations and without the need for manual adjustment while driving. The mechanism version must be compatible with the mirror type and car equipment.

How to choose a wing mirror for a specific car?

It is best to compare the OEM part number, interchangeable numbers, mounting side, and body version. It is also worth checking the housing color, connector type, number of pins, and the presence of features such as heating, folding, or turn signals. For pre-facelift and facelift cars, visual and electrical differences may be important for correct installation.

What symptoms indicate the need to replace a mirror or its elements?

The most common symptoms are cracked glass, loose housing, vibrations while driving, faulty adjustment, and lack of heating. Damage to the turn signal in the mirror or broken clips after a parking collision also occur. In many cases, you can replace only a selected element, provided the rest of the assembly remains compatible and functional.

What should be paid attention to when installing a used wing mirror?

Before installation, it is worth comparing the mounting points, housing condition, completeness of the wiring, and compatibility of the electrical plug. You should also check if the mirror fits correctly to the door and if all intended functions work after connection. After installation, it is good to immediately set the field of view and check the stability of the entire assembly.
