A lock striker is a component mounted on the opposite side of the lock mechanism, most often on the door pillar or in the opening frame. It serves to catch the lock pawl and set the final position of the door or cover after closing. Its shape, position, and adjustability affect the closing force, tightness, and the absence of rattling while driving.

How to choose the right lock or latch for a car?

It is safest to compare the OEM part number, interchangeable numbers, mounting side, and vehicle placement. It is also worth checking the body version, door type, connector type, and equipment, such as the presence of central locking or a keyless system. For parts from different model years, compatibility with pre-facelift and post-facelift versions is also important.

What symptoms indicate wear of a lock or latch?

Typical symptoms include difficulty opening, no response to the remote, the need to slam the door harder, and rattling coming from the pillar or tailgate area. Often, irregular central locking operation or incorrect information about an unclosed door also occurs. Such symptoms can result from both mechanism wear and striker misalignment.

How to maintain automotive locks and latches after installation?

After installation, it is worth periodically checking the cleanliness of the mechanism, the condition of the mounts, and the operation of the handle and actuator. Using appropriate lubricants for lock mechanisms and avoiding overloading the doors when closing also helps.
