What is the construction and purpose of wind deflectors?

Wind deflectors are accessories mounted at the side windows, most often in the upper part of the door frame. A typical element consists of a profiled plastic body and mounting zones matched to a specific car model. Their purpose is to improve airflow when the window is open and limit rain from entering the interior.

What are wind deflectors used for?

Wind deflectors are used to improve driving comfort and cabin ventilation without the need to fully open the windows. They limit air noise, reduce turbulence, and allow the window to be cracked open during precipitation. Additionally, they affect the car's appearance, as they emphasize the line of the door and the upper part of the windows.

What role does the mounting of wind deflectors play?

The mounting of wind deflectors is the way the element is seated in the door frame, seal, or on the body surface. It is responsible for stability, proper adhesion, and lack of collision with window operation during raising and lowering. The type of mounting also affects the ease of installation and whether a given deflector fits a three- or five-door version.

How to choose wind deflectors for a specific car?

It is best to compare the OEM number, interchangeable numbers, mounting side, and body version. It is also worth checking whether the part is intended for the front or rear and whether it corresponds to the number of doors in the vehicle. For used elements, the surface condition and completeness of the mountings are also important.

What symptoms indicate that wind deflectors require replacement?

The most common symptoms include cracks, deformations, loosening, and noise appearing when driving with the window open. Deflectors with a heavily dulled surface or damaged mounting edge may also require replacement. If the element protrudes from the door frame, it is worth checking its fit and mounting method.

How to care for wind deflectors after installation?

It is best to clean them with a mild agent and a soft cloth, without aggressive preparations that could scratch the plastic. It is worth regularly checking whether the element has loosened at the door edge and whether it is collecting dirt near the seals. Thanks to this, the deflectors maintain their aesthetics and properly fulfill their function.
