What is the construction and purpose of shock absorber and strut mounts?

Shock absorber and strut mounts are components connecting suspension struts or shock absorbers to the vehicle body. Typical construction includes a metal part, a rubber layer for vibration damping, and mounting points tailored to the specific car design. Depending on the axle and suspension type, they may come with or without a bearing. Their position and shape must be compared with the OEM number and vehicle version.

What are shock absorber and strut mounts used for?

Shock absorber and strut mounts are used for the stable seating of damping elements and to limit the transmission of vibrations to the body. They maintain the correct position of the shock absorber during suspension operation and help maintain predictable car handling. In front systems, they may additionally work with a bearing that allows smooth strut movement during steering. Their wear often affects noise, comfort, and suspension precision.

What is the construction and function of a mounting cushion?

A mounting cushion is a rubber-metal component that is part of the upper seating of a shock absorber or strut. It is used to dampen vibrations and isolate suspension operation from the body, thereby reducing noise felt in the cabin. In many solutions, it works with a thrust bearing and strut protective elements. Its condition is important for the smoothness of suspension operation and the durability of associated parts.

How to choose the right shock absorber and strut mounts for a car?

The safest way is to compare the OEM part number, replacement numbers, location on the vehicle, and suspension version. It also matters whether the part is intended for the front or rear and whether it comes with a bearing. For different body versions or equipment, it is worth additionally verifying compatibility via VIN.

What symptoms indicate wear of shock absorber and strut mounts?

The most common symptoms are knocking while driving, more noticeable body vibrations, and reduced comfort in dampening bumps. In some cars, less smooth suspension strut operation and noticeable play when changing loads also occur. Symptoms should be assessed together with the condition of the shock absorber and other suspension components.

What data in the offer should be checked before installation?

Before purchasing, it is worth checking the brand, part condition, OEM number, replacement numbers, and exact location on the vehicle. It is also good to compare the shape of the base, the number of mounting points, and the presence of a bearing if the design requires it. Such data makes it easier to match the part to a specific car version without guesswork.
