What is the construction and purpose of evaporators?

Evaporators are heat exchangers mounted in the blower system housing, usually behind the dashboard. They consist of an aluminum core, refrigerant flow tubes, and fins that increase the heat exchange surface. Their task is to cool and dehumidify the air directed into the vehicle cabin.

What are evaporators used for?

Evaporators are used to absorb heat from the air blown into the car interior by evaporating the refrigerant. Thanks to this, they lower the temperature in the cabin and help remove moisture, which reduces window fogging. Their operation also affects the stability of the entire air conditioning system.

What role does the expansion valve play in a system with an evaporator?

The expansion valve is a component that controls the flow of refrigerant to the evaporator. It is responsible for reducing the refrigerant pressure before it enters the exchanger and selecting the appropriate amount of medium for current operating conditions. Cooling efficiency, temperature stability, and protection of HVAC system components depend on its efficiency.

How to choose an evaporator for a specific car?

The safest way is to compare the OEM number, interchangeable numbers, and vehicle equipment version. It is also worth checking the A/C type, connection shape, mounting points, and compatibility with the blower housing. For cars with different body or equipment versions, verification by VIN is helpful.

What symptoms may indicate a problem with the evaporator?

Typical signals include weaker cooling, unpleasant odors from the vents, excessive moisture in the cabin, and restricted airflow. These symptoms may result from dirt, leaks, or icing of the evaporator surface. In practice, it is also worth checking cooperating elements to rule out other sources of the fault.

How to take care of evaporators after installation?

The basis is regular A/C service, system leak checks, and periodic cabin filter replacement. It is also good to keep the condensate drain clear and clean the blower system when a damp smell appears. Such maintenance helps maintain cooling efficiency and reduces the accumulation of contaminants on the evaporator fins.
